Estudio de un invierno is a two-track EP in which reflections upon shadow & light are addressed sonically by the interaction of low and high frequencies.

Umbra is the darkest and innermost part of a shadow—a total occultation. Sine waves unfold over a layer of crisp synthetic sounds, gradually rising until complete silence is reached. Occultation presents itself as a beginning of vulnerability, uncertainty, and potentiality.

Penumbra is the area where only a portion of the light source is obscured by an occluding body—a partial eclipse. As frequencies interact, beatings and movement slowly emerge, creating a sonic space where opposites delicately nurture each other.

Both phenomena studied in this work explore and reveal María's physical and spiritual experience of winter.

Composed during the winter of 2022-2023.
